hmmm – “A Quilt for Royality”

Tap – Tap – Tap – Is this thing on……
I read that on Rachel Griffin’s Blog I thought that was pretty funny. I completely relate. You wouldn’t believe the amount of times I’ve started a blog post and never got around to finishing the post. Either because I finished the project and moved on to another one and decided that it was no longer blog worthly so…. I decided to show you what I’ve been up to lately. T-Shirt Quilts.  I love the fact that my co-workers come into my office and give me a bag full of stuff. “Can you make me a quilt?”   Of course I can!  “What do you have?” as they spill the contents out.

  T-Shirt Quilt Meghan 1

This one had a three sashes.  So I used them down the middle of the columes.T-Shirt Quilt Meghan

Ms Faye called it “A Quilt for Royality” She had to try on all of the sashes and prance around the house with them on. – LOL –  Here is the completed quilt.

T-Shirt Quilt for Meghan

Meghan has received her quilt and loves it.  Her mom told me that she wants to frame it.  That makes me happy!

T-shirt Quilt Photo Shoot 3

Here is the finished T-Shirt Quilt ….. It finished at 60″ Square….it’s making it way to Tennesee as I write this, I’m so happy to report….I decided to try a little photo shoot with the quilt like so many people do….only I did it in my backyard 🙂 LOL

T-Shirt Quilt

T-Shirt Quilt

I learned alot about making T-Shirt quilts from this project…..I didn’t use a batting since I used a fleece on the back…..hmm can it still be called a quilt…..members from the guild told me that since it has an interfacing on all the t-shirts that it still had three layers and could there for be called quilt….

another thing that I learned is that you need to be very careful while quilting it….I have an area that didn’t quite line up and the stitching over laps a bit….I thought that it might leave holes in the t-shirt area where the silk screening is and I didn’t want to risk that.

Happy Holidays!

I know one family that is going for some happiness this year……Here are quilts #2 and 3……and they are now with the HaPpY owners…….so far the wife has received her quilt (she has this Pittsburg Steelers quilt) and from what I was told… it has replaced the quilt on their bed 😀 ………..

Steelers Quilt 2

The next quilt is for their daughter Michala they call her Mickey……

Mickey Mouse Quilt1

Mickey Quilt

This quilt was originally going to be a purple and yellow quilt (school colors) and I was suppose to incorporate volleyball into it some how…….after they received Quilt #1 and #2 they changed their minds and asked if we could do  a Mickey Mouse Quilt using Red, Black, and White and if possible to not let it be too baby looking…..and could I somehow put “Mickey” on it…….. After he received quilt #3 he told me I was a Rock Star – YAY!……All 3 quilts were backed with fleece…..I’ve never used fleece for a backing but, boy did they ever seem warm…..especially with batting in between…. I think I may have to make one for us with a fleece back to see how they hold up…..I can’t think of any reason why they shouldn’t……

……..until next time……..

Sweet Dreams!

A Friend of ours, his name is Chris (go figure)…. asked Chris (my Chris) if we could possibly make three quilt for his girls (wife & two teenage daughters) before Christmas…..He gets hit pretty hard in the month of December…..besides Christmas they all have December Birthdays too……Chris said of course we could (then he came home and asked me –  well… as long as you help, I think we can do it)…….. He gave us a few suggestions of each of their likes and we went fabric shopping…..for this quilt he told use she likes astrology and has a blue room with stars painted on her wall, and could we incorporate her horoscope sign some how…. she is a Capricorn…….. her favorite color is yellow so could we make sure that it some how had yellow too…..

So after doing a little bit of homework on Capricorn…. I found that the ruling planet is for Capricorn is Saturn……I had in my mind what I wanted to do…so when we went shopping for fabric I stumbled on the perfect fabric for this project……the blue fabric has constelation on it…….and then I found the fabric with the planets….I made sure that when I cut the fabric for the borders that it highlighted Saturn…… I wanted to place random stars in yellow and decided to use my Tri-Rec’s ruler for them ……I like how pointy the stars are from using this ruler…..I appliqued the Capricorn Symbol on it…..He also  wanted the quilts to be really warm so we purchased yellow fleece for the backing and also added batting too…..it was really thick and puffy after I quilted it……..

I just love how it turned out and more importantly…”it was more that he could have ever imagined” and that makes me smile ^_^

……until next time……..

Swooning

Mr Chris thought it would be really nice if he were to purchase me/us a new cutting tool…..What could I say….as we walked around the Quilt Expo he saw the Alto’s QuiltCut2……He’s been eyeballing it for a while….meaning a couple of years now……so while I wasn’t looking/paying attention to him he decided to run back to the booth where they were demostrating it……If you buy the show model we’ll give you a discount…..he was hooked, anything to save a little bit of money…..

So what should we cut first……okay smarty pants lets try this new cutter to make a Swoon Quilt…….I had a fat quarter pack of Legacy Fabric that he bought me for Easter a couple of years ago ……(it was in a basket, better then me eating candy)…..The Swoon Quilt is 80″ square and takes 18 fat quarters plus like 4 – 1/2 yards of background fabric…..each block is 24″ …….. So in a couple of hours more like three we cut all the fabric to make the Swoon Quilt……..So last week I started sewing the blocks together….First one done…..second one done……a why is this one smaller…..I looked at the setting on my sewing machine….I went to set it for a 1/4″ seam but, never hit the icon to set it……OH HOW FRUSTRATING……

I think it’s about an inch off all around……..I was talking to my friend about what I did….she told me to make a pillow…..but, I need this fabric for the quilt….I’m going to have to rip it out….then she was talking about needing a quick quilt for a friend in a couple of weeks…I told her to make a giant Swoon…..if you double the block size…..so then I had my mind set on trying to create it……plus I was still fuming over the 1/4″ seam mistake….so instead of ripping out my mistake …… here is the giant/large swoon that I made with stash fabric……it’s 48″ square……it will make an nice baby quilt……she’s came over last night and we used that new fancy cutter and cut her fabric…….we decided to add a couple of border to hers for a nice lap size quilt

….until next time…..
