Well, Hello There!

How the HECK is everybody…….I have to tell ya it’s been a bummer health wise over at my place so far this year……. I’ve had the sore throat, hacking, stuffy head can’t get no relief kind of thing going on…..I’ve had this crud since Christmas…..It’s the thing that keeps on giving……I’m so over it but, I’m happy to say that I think I have finally kicked it and it’s starting to go away…..almost…..Let’s hope so……It’s time to get going with the new year!….

In the mean time our last December meeting with the  Tucson Modern Quilt Guild …….we selected new officers and some how I managed to be elected Block of the Month person……..I was thinking how to go about this new position……. So right before our January meeting I got an email wanting to know what block I would be presenting….did I have one planned out……So not shunning my duties I said Yup….I had a idea of what I wanted to do but, I was struggling with which way to take this new duty of mine…….so after a couple of emails it was decided to go ahead with beginning quilting…….so I choose the Rail Fence block……….Now what….. I took to the internet and did a google search …….I want to give them a pattern each month and to show them what a quilt would look like made with the block………..if it’s technical a demo perhaps……..and if the group wants to follow along and make said block of the month in the end they will have a sampler quilt……..I love samplers quilts…..but, I don’t have one, do you?……..so…….here’s my Block 1

……..I’ve decided to make my sampler with a  30′s fabric theme…….

after I pieced this together I thought how could I make this Modern …….we are after all the Tucson Modern Quilt Guild…….I figured if we are going to make one traditional we may as well make one in a modern series as well….. well here’s the result……

……..I stacked up all the fabric that I was going to used and cut it at a wonky diagonal and mixed up the fabric….I did a demo on how to achieve this block

and you know what the crew liked it…..hmm….. now I have to come up with next months block……

……..until next time……

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 3,600 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 60 trips to carry that many people.

WOW–next Sunday is the big day ALREADY!

I hope this season has been kind to you and you are savoring each day as it comes……Because, ready or not, next Sunday will arrive…..I’ve been busy, my sewing machine and I have been busy working overtime …….I had this brilliant idea to see if anyone would be interested in these doll beds……

yup….they sure were…..I even have a few orders for after Christmas……

I participated in Chookyblue’s SSCS again this year…….my gifts have reached there destination…..they were sent to Australia to Tracee and she likes the ornament that I made her…….. ……..Faye and I decided that we wanted to make a few more and have started but sadly, have not finished them………..we will…..hopefully in time for Christmas…..Faye has been so excited this year…..She’s been trying so hard to get everyone to show her what gifts they have gotten her……she promises that she will be surprised on Christmas when she opens them…….to funny……..so on a closing note:

Whatever your situation, I hope you will remember: It’s truly not the *things* that make our day(s) special.  It’s time and the love in our hearts that we share with family, friends, neighbors and loved ones……

Isn’t it funny how love multiplies when it is given freely–with gladness and with no expectation of anything in return. It’s love–not stuff–that makes life truly marvelous………

I hope everyone is enjoying this Holiday Season

…….until next time…….

SSCS Arrived

I received my Secret Santa Christmas Swap package….It came from Thimbelina she lives Australia……. With this swap the rules are that you are required to make a handmade ornament that gets to be opened right away when you receive your package and the main gift has to wait until Christmas Day……Well wasn’t I the lucky one ……I received three packages that I could open…….two were ornaments!…….…….the first is a tree made from buttons…LOVE IT…….the second ornament is an embroidered tree… …….sorry the flash exposed too much so I’ll get another photo and post it later……..and if that wasn’t enough……I got CHOCOLATE…..delicious I might add and look how cute they are…………..It’s going to be hard not to open up the main gift…..but I’ll wait…….

Thanks Thimbelina!

………until next time……..

Kona Challenge Almost Completed

Here’s another sneak peek at the quilt top…….I’m currently sewing on the binding……so I’ll save that picture until I’m done….. I’ll show you a picture of the back instead…. I’m truly loving this side very much…..I was trying to use all the scraps left over from the paper pieced arrows……..It turned out so cute, I think this quilt could very well be reversible……

the binding will be completed tonight…..we have our meeting tomorrow and I can’t wait to see what everyone else has done!

…..until next time…….

Quietly Working

I’ve spent the past two weeks doing some paper piecing…………..

You see I have a challenge that I’m working on……..The Tucson Modern Quild was given a set of Robert Kaufmans Kona Charms Squares to be used to create whatever you wanted to……….Only stipulation was that you could only add solids…..our guild decided that we could add two solids ……..I choose a bright charm pack and decided that white would be one of my color choices ………

I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do……so I decided to check out Quilter Cache for some inspiration and that’s where I found the block called London Roads that I’m working with……….

Since yesterday……I’ve completed the top and bottom…….decided on a quilting design…..loaded it up on “Baba” (that’s the name of my longarm) last night and will spend the rest of my morning quilting it ……..Hurray………

You’ll have to check back either later today or tomorrow depending on how my days goes…….. to see the completed quilt……..I’ love it………

………..until next time………
